On September 26, the Mobilization Meeting for Key Projects of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Comprehensive Cooperation Demonstration Area was held in Nansha District, Guangzhou. In the meeting, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou College was announced to be officially commenced. The person in charge of the project from the Ministry of Education read out the opinion on approval of establishing the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou College jointly by Guangzhou University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”). The president of Yuexiu Group, Zhang Zhaoxing attended the commencement ceremony of the project and laid an earth-up foundation for the project.
Located on the northeast of Qingsheng, the hub of FTA Nansha District, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou College covers an area of about 11,300 square meters. It is a Chinese mainland and Hong Kong cooperative educational institution that carries out academic education and has independent corporate capacity, dedicated to cultivating the nation’s high-end talents having innovation capability and serving science and technology innovation, industry upgrading and high quality development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. According to the construction plan, the project is expected to complete the first-installment site formation of the campus by the end of 2019 and to complete the first-installment construction of the campus within 18 months.
As a Guangzhou-invested enterprise registered in Hong Kong and developed in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Yuexiu Group abides by the requirements of the major leaders of Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, plays the role of the “chief communication officer” and “super contact person” in charge of linking Guangzhou and the cities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and fulfills its obligation of being a key platform for construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in order to fully support the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center. When the project of HKUST, Guangzhou College was signed, Yuexiu Group donated HKD 100 Million to the project construction. In addition, it devotes itself to building a Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Education & Science and Technology League running in the mode of “science and technology + finance + base” by joining in hands with Nansha District Government, the science and technology management department of Guangzhou, South China University of Technology, HKUST and Macao University so as to facilitate result transformation of scientific and technological innovation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In the coming days, Yuexiu Group will have closer cooperation with HKUST in carrying on more in-depth contribution to construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will keep increasing investment in the Area and strive to become the key platform for construction of a world-class city cluster in the Area and to support Guangzhou’s becoming the backbone force of the core cities of the Area.
